'Ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ'

(St Jerome 347-419AD)

The Mass readings of the Catholic Church are arranged according to two cycles: one for the Sunday readings and one for the weekday readings. The Sunday readings run in a three year cycle (Year A, B and C) while the weekday readings have a two year cycle (Year I and Year II).

Both of these cycles are further divided according to their place in the liturgical year. The liturgical year begins with Advent and Christmastide. It continues with Ordinary Time before moving into Lent and Eastertide. At the end of Eastertide, Ordinary Time resumes; it concludes with the Feast of Christ the King. The new liturgical year then begins with Advent.

Below, the Sunday and weekday readings for Advent, Christmastide, Lent, Holy Week and Eastertide all contain the readings for Year A/B/C.

'I interpret as I should, following the command of Christ: "Search the Scriptures," and "Seek and you shall find." For if, as Paul says, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and if the man who does not know Scripture does not know the power and wisdom of God, then ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.'

(St Jerome Commentary on Isaiah)
